On June 16, the “Connecting Global Trade · Gathering Businesses at Guang‑ao Port” port‑shipping‑trade integration development forum was held in Shantou China. As a local key foreign‑trade enterprise, Shantou Charmer Toys& Gifts Co., Ltd. took part in this event together with more than 60 local export manufacturers, together with government departments, port operators and shipping carriers to tackle logistics challenges and seek long‑term coordinated development.
The event combined on‑site port inspection with thematic discussions. Our team toured the front‑line operation zone of Guang‑ao Terminal, witnessing efficient container loading‑unloading and yard management. By visiting the port exhibition hall, we gained deeper insights into the long‑term development layout, improved supporting facilities and route expansion progress of Shantou Port operated by China Merchants Port Group. The‑first‑hand‑site‑visit greatly strengthened our confidence in exporting our gift products via local home‑harbor resources.
During the round‑table discussion, representatives from Shantou China Merchants Port, local commerce bureau and Guang‑ao Customs shared latest policies on port upgrading, customs clearance facilitation and cost‑reduction support. Our company spoke out about practical operating pain points including high transshipment costs, complicated document‑amendment procedures and insufficient direct ocean routes, which are widely faced by local gift‑export suppliers. Port and shipping‑line operators gave targeted solutions on‑site to break information barriers between all stakeholders.
Clear‑cost‑comparison data shared at the forum impressed our team deeply. Road haulage distance for cargo delivered to Guang‑ao Port is only around 60‑70 kilometres, far shorter than the 800‑kilometre round trip to Shenzhen Port. For Southeast‑Asia and Northeast‑Asia shipments, ocean freight rates of Shantou direct services match the market level of Shenzhen. A single container can save over 100 US dollars in comprehensive logistics expenses by choosing local shipment. Though long‑haul direct shipping is currently unavailable at Guang‑ao Port, transshipment expenditure is roughly equivalent to extra trucking fees incurred by delivering goods out‑of‑town.
We fully recognise the‑cycling‑development logic: sufficient‑local‑cargo volume attracts additional international shipping routes, while improved route networks further encourage enterprises to ship locally. At‑present, continual‑cargo‑outflow restricts port‑facility‑upgrading and route‑expansion. Charmer Gifts commits to prioritising Guang‑ao Port for our overseas‑bound orders. We will work alongside other local merchants to drive the return of Shantou‑origin goods.
Moving forward, Shantou Charmer Toys& Gifts will maintain regular communication with port authorities and carriers. We plan to leverage local‑port‑logistical advantages to optimise our global‑supply‑chain arrangement, cut overall export expenditure, and deliver more‑competitive custom gift products to worldwide buyers. Together with all‑industry partners, we support the‑virtuous‑circle of cargo‑gathering, route‑expansion, port‑upgrade and foreign‑trade growth, contributing to high‑quality development of Shantou’s outward‑oriented economy.
